Welcome to Shop Aquarium Fish a family-owned and operated online retail business founded in Florida. We specialize in nano freshwater fish and plants. Our main goal is to provide access to a variety of unique and healthy nano fish for both the seasoned fishkeeping community as well as the novice beginner.
A Brief History
In 1993, while still living in Texas, Jerry Jobe (JJ) was introduced to fishkeeping by his sister, Taren, who brought home a betta she named, Hotlips. Soon, JJ (not-so-ironically) began keeping Texas cichlids. This led JJ to keep community fish in his mid-teens. And it has remained a passion of his ever since. In 2006, JJ had the opportunity to travel to England, and while there, he lay eyes on an aquascape for the first time. It looked to him like a Houdini water chamber filled with various schooling fish, such as cardinal tetras and corydoras. Seeing this amazing scape fueled in JJ a passion for aquascaping, as well as for schooling fish. Since then, JJ has been a fixture at the Aquatic Gardner Association Convention (AGA), Aquatic Experience (AE), and Global Pet Expo. JJ also spent two and a half years working at Jack Wattley Discus. There he dealt with all types of discus, altum angelfish, tetras, corydoras, and plants as well.
JJ met the love of his life, Yleinia, in 2017, and they were married in March 2018. With the support of his new bride, Shop Aquarium Fish was formed in late 2018. They both have a love for God which has led them in every decision with Shop Aquarium Fish, and they both are both honored and humbled to serve you!
Fun Facts
JJ co-hosted ScapeFu, a podcast dedicated to aquascaping, planted aquariums, the art behind it, and the science of it. He has had an article published in The Aquatic Gardner magazine. He is also a member of Team Dysfunktional that has competed at the Aquatic Experience in the large scape competition for the last six years. In 2018 and 2019, Team Dysfunktional took home first place while also receiving the People’s Choice Award (2018). These two award winning tanks were featured in Amazonas Magazine as well as The Aquatic Gardner. JJ has conducted several aquascaping demonstrations for the Gold Coast Aquarium Society as well as, the former, Venice Aquarium Society. At Global Pet Expo and Aquatic Experience, he’s had the privilege of creating beautiful aquascapes for Hydor Group USA, OASE North America, JBJ, and Dr. Tim’s Aquatics. Lastly, JJ has been a Prodibio Ambassador since Spring 2018.
